Week 7

'Allo, 'Allo!!! That is the name of a British sitcom that people here just love. I imagine it's like Americans' fondness for Cheers. Or Seinfeld perhaps?

Right.

Moving on. So it's been a busy few weeks here for me. Apologies for the lack of posts. In addition to projects piling up in my program as we near the end of the term, I've also been out of town the past two weekends meeting various members of my boyfriend's family. Yes, you read that correctly, I have met a wonderful English guy (Bill) and I'm very happy. So 2 weeks ago I went to Cambridge to visit the Archaeology and Anthropology Museum with my school, and then Bill and I went to Nottingham to collect a kitten that Bill's brother had rescued near his workplace, which we named Mathilde. You can see her adorable mug in the photo here. And then last week I was in London for a trip with my department (we toured the British Museum with one of the curators, and also stopped at the Victoria and Albert Museum--stunning!). Met up with Bill for the weekend to attend his sister's engagement party in London, which was very nice. She lives near a huge shopping centre that just opened (apparently the largest in Europe now), which was packed with people, but it was fun to walk around. Finally we stopped at Bill's parents' house on the way back to Norwich and had a nice, relaxing afternoon there, followed by a fabulous roast dinner that Bill prepared.

What else? Trying to decide whether or not to attend a conference in France in early December. Man it's a rough life...go to France or not go to France? Sigh. Found out I'm presenting at a workshop in March in Essex...and get this: they invited me!! Woohoo! I didn't have to do anything! These are the moments that make it all worthwhile.

So to put an end to my babbling for one night, I'll leave you with a conversation between Bill and I recently when we were in the grocery store...

Bill: I love the way you Americans pronounce things...basil, zucchini...
MK: How do you pronounce "zucchini" here?
Bill: Courgette
